The Queen Mary panoramic gets Explored on Flickr!!! Woohoo! (if you have no idea what that means, read on…)

I learned a lot yesterday. If you think that the Explore page is just a completely random assortment of photos posted throughout the day on Flickr, you are just as uninformed as yesterday me.

If you weren’t aware, Flickr uses an (allegedly) advanced algorithm to judge each uploaded photo’s “interestingness” and dumps the top 500 of those onto the Explore page. Photos on the Explore page can vie with each other throughout the day for better spots, but as far as I know, there’s no way to be booted off (unless you take it off the page yourself).

Long story short, but I discovered my latest upload had been added to the Explore page by one user who congratulated me in a comment (thank you, Tilak Haria!). At the end of the day, I had climbed from the mid-200s all the way up to #98!

Thank you all for the comments and favorites! And for all those interested, check out the shot on my Flickr page!
