This was just a bit of fun. While walking around last night I noticed huge puddles of water flowing through the complex, so I thought I’d follow them around to see if I caught any cool reflections in them.Read More

Storms Over the Pacific Rim
Alright, so it’s not really the Pacific Rim, but it’s as close as I’ve come so far in my travels. This is the lagoon outside of the Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando, Florida. The whole resort has that Pacific feel and is isolated from the rest of the city by a thick forest of trees. The abandoned seaplane completes the illusion and adds to the isolated vibe.
Part of the Universal Studios group of partner hotels, the Loews Royal Pacific shares a waterway with the theme park, so you can just hop a boat and head to the Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios proper.Read More
Terminal Exposure
I’ve been told numerous times that this shot looks like something out of Resident Evil, but that really wasn’t my intent (not to say I don’t totally see it now).
Shot in one of the walkways between Terminal A and Terminal C at IAH in Houston, I just happened to be waiting for the train when I looked over to see this bizarre, ornamental stars hanging from the ceiling like Christmas decorations.Read More
Unconditional Surrender
Happy Friday! Here’s another one from San Diego. The statue by Seward Johnson is apparently one of a series of three (I think this is the largest, though) and is based on the iconic photo (or photos depending on who you ask) taken back in 1945.Read More
Poseidon’s Fury
Poseidon’s what? Apparently, Poseidon’s pretty upset about something. Probably because someone knocked down his statue and destroyed his temple. Either that or he just caught the season four premiere of Warehouse 13 and was a little let down.Read More
Buy Prints!
It was recently brought to my attention that it’s not entirely clear on my site that you can buy prints. This is something I was wondering myself (not whether you could buy prints, but that you knew you could buy prints, y’know?), so it helped to hear it from someone else.Read More
Radiance
The scene was idyllic–the setting sun, the greens of the trees and grass, the warm glow of the lights illuminating the soft white of the chapel. Everything came together naturally. All that was left for me to do was shoot away (and keep people out of my shot).Read More
Boats At Bay
I had seen a photo like this (albeit one much more masterfully crafted) a long time ago and was fascinated by the juxtaposition of clouds and sea with rows of boats sandwiched between and reflected in the water.
In that photo however, the water perfectly reflected the boats in such a way that you could flip it 180° and not be able to tell the difference.Read More
Seaport Village Sunset
Seaport Village along the coast of San Diego, California is a bustling area full or restaurants, shops, and outdoor markets. Arriving there just in time for the sunset, I was treated to a plethora of colors reflecting off the water and rocks surrounding the village. I continued walking along the coast, but this was one of the more spectacular sunset shots I got.Read More
Behind the Three Broomsticks
This is the view of the patio at the Three Broomsticks and the back of Diagon Alley from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. In the background on the left you can see the spires of Hogwarts castle.Read More
Pressed Against the Sky
Every so often a storm will roll in that renews your fear and awe of nature, and this was certainly one of those rare times. The clouds billowed in like the Michelin Man or Mr. Stay Puft.
Oh, and the ominous clouds preceded a huge sandstorm, too. Good times…Read More
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
At Max’s urgings, I went back and looked at these long-exposures that I took while we were hanging out on the dock at Buffalo Springs Lake earlier this month. I’m actually a little surprised they turned out pretty good. Usually, my D90 doesn’t like extreme low light or long exposures too much, but the noise and color distortion is rather minimal in these.Read More
Barcelona Wrap-up
Here’s a smattering of photos from Barcelona that haven’t been posted yet. Don’t worry, this will be the end of Spain for now!
Most of these were taken from around the Hotel ARTS, but I threw in a few from the empty airport in Barcelona. We got there around four in the morning and there was hardly a soul in sight. It wasn’t until nearly an hour later that the first travelers started trickling in.Read More
L’Aquàrium de Barcelona
L’Aquàrium de Barcelona was our last stop on the great Spain trip. It took about 30 seconds to fully explain to the cab driver where we wanted to go. Apparently, aquarium is pronounced ah-KWAR-ee-oom in Catalonian (though, it seems like uh-kware-e-yum would be close enough). And after all that, it was pretty much around the corner from where we were (but it was nice to get out of the sun for awhile after walking around Montjuïc Castell.Read More
Cable Car from Montjuïc
After checking out Montjuïc Castell, we needed to high-tail it back down to la Barceloneta area if we wanted to have time to visit the aquarium. Traveling down from Montjuïc by cable car was the quickest way down the hill back to the seaside, so we packed in and held on! It was pretty wild and definitely afforded us some unique views of the harbor.Read More
Fun With Water Balloons
When I heard that the subject for this months show and tell would be water, I honestly had no idea what I would submit (if anything at all). Maggie had shown me a shot she found online of a water balloon bursting captured at a really high shutter speed. It looked cool enough, but it was lacking something. But what?
Ah, yes. It needed someone stupid enough to stand below the bursting balloon!Read More
Montjuïc Castell
The castle atop Montjuïc was one of the last destinations we visited on our trip to Barcelona, Spain. Though Montjuïc Castell was only a small taste of what the Montjuïc area had to offer (there are supposedly some amazing gardens, the magic fountain, and the national palace, as well), we also wanted to fit in a trip to the aquarium (pronounced ah-kwer-ee-oom; we had a hell of a time trying to explain to the cab driver where we wanted to go).Read More
La Catedral Barcelona
Second only in its fame to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, the Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia is the most impressive Gothic church in Barcelona (and an attraction no Spain trip should go without!). Though small compared to Gaudi’s masterpiece, la Catedral is not without its own magnificence. The vaulted ceilings, the gargoyles adorning the outside, the choir stalls, chapels, and cloister. The whole scene is lent an ethereal quality by the light flowing down from the stained glass windows.Read More
Fireworks – First Attempt
Having never shot fireworks before (at least with a DSLR), I didn’t have super high expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised with how well my first attempt went.
Of course, it didn’t hurt that we spent the entire evening out at Buffalo Springs Lake with friends on an absolutely beautiful night.Read More
Sunrise Over La Barceloneta
Things were pretty jam-packed with work and sight-seeing taking up 98% of my time, but I still managed to get up with the birds one morning to capture the Barcelona sunrise. The area right outside my hotel is called La Barceloneta and it’s comprised mainly of beaches, restaurants, and clubs.
The beaches were nice and clean, and there were always people out playing volleyball or just laying on the sands. Sadly, I wasn’t one of them. By the time I was done with work, the sun was setting and the water drastically cooling.Read More
